ADL Journey Discussion: How Far You Have Come

From Classroom Teacher to Digital Learning Leader

This reflection represents more than a collaborative discussion assignment. It captures the professional transformation I experienced throughout the Applied Digital Learning program. What began as a desire to improve my use of technology in the classroom evolved into a deeper understanding of intentional design, measurable impact, and sustainable innovation.

This journey is a reflection of how far I have come.

When I began the M.Ed. in Applied Digital Learning, I believed I was simply learning how to use technology more effectively. What I discovered instead was how to design learning with intention.

This journey reshaped not only my classroom practices, but my professional identity.

Through the ADL principles and the COVA framework, I experienced what authentic learning truly means. I was not completing assignments to check a box. I was building something real. My innovation project, Tech Time: My Time in Kindergarten, became the anchor of my learning. Every course refined it. Every theory deepened it. Every reflection strengthened it.

What began as a structured digital center routine evolved into a research-informed model designed to increase student independence, engagement, and ownership in kindergarten.

The greatest transformation was internal.

I became a self-directed learner. I learned how to connect theory to practice, how to design with measurable outcomes in mind, and how to use data to guide improvement. Through action research, I developed a measurement strategy focused on independence and engagement. I moved from intuition to evidence.

I also began to see innovation through a leadership lens. Designing an organizational change strategy taught me that sustainable impact requires structure, alignment, and support. Innovation is not just creativity. It is intentional design supported by strategy and measurable outcomes.

Building my ePortfolio has been one of the most meaningful parts of this journey. It represents more than coursework. It tells the story of growth, courage, and purpose.

Today, I do not simply integrate technology.
I design significant learning environments grounded in theory, aligned with outcomes, and supported by evidence.

This journey has shown me that real innovation begins in the classroom, but it does not end there. It expands through leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous growth.

I am no longer just a classroom teacher implementing digital tools.
I am becoming a digital learning leader.

I am proud of how far I have come.
And I am confident in where I am going next.
