COVA model
This was our very first group assignment in the Applied Digital Learning program, and it introduced us to the foundation of everything we would experience going forward: the COVA learning approach (Choice, Ownership, Voice, and Authentic learning). Together with my classmates, we explored how this model shifts the focus from traditional, teacher-directed instruction to meaningful, learner-centered experiences.
Through this discussion, I began to understand how COVA empowers learners to take control of their growth. As a kindergarten teacher, this approach challenged me to rethink how I design learning not just for my students, but for myself. It helped me realize that giving learners voice and ownership is essential for building confidence and motivation at any age.
This collaborative reflection also helped us build community early on in the program. Sharing our thoughts, questions, and goals helped us see that we were not alone in this learning journey we were building it together.

“Authentic learning happens when students are given the freedom to choose, the space to own their learning, and the confidence to find their voice.”
